Sennheiser Targets Athletes with Wireless Earbuds

Sennheiser today introduced a splash- and sweat-resistant set of wireless earbuds designed to stay in place during active workouts.

The CX Sport earbuds ($130) deliver sound via aptX-enabled Bluetooth and have “ergonomic fins” to keep the ’buds secure during strenuous activities.

Weighing just over half an ounce, the earbuds can be connected to up to two devices simultaneously and have a rated battery life of 6 hours when fully charged. For convenience, a USB quick-charge function provides an hour of playback after only 10 minutes of charging.

The earbuds can be worn around the front or back of the neck and have an integrated cable-length adjuster and optional shirt clip to keep the cable from flopping around. A three-button inline remote control helps manage music and calls, and voice prompts alert the listener when the ’buds are paired to the source device and the battery is running low.

To accommodate different size ears, Sennheiser provides three sets of small, medium, and large fins and four sets of four different size ear tips along with a neoprene carry pouch.

“For many, headphones are a true workout essential,” said product manager Marcel Salzmann. “We have designed the CX Sport to deliver everything athletes need to get the most out of their workout session — great sound, secure fit, and a robust but lightweight design.”
