Revel’s New, Upgraded Subwoofers Due Out this Fall

Revel previewed two new Performa3 Series subwoofers at last week’s CEDIA Expo that feature updated amplifiers and a new high-performance driver.

Due out this fall, the Performa3 B110V2 ($2,500) and B112V2 ($3,500) are built around a new driver — 10- and 12-inches, respectively — designed to “produce low frequencies at extremely high sound-pressure levels” with low distortion.

Attributes of Revel’s revamped driver include a fully-vented cast aluminum frame with more mass for greater strength and higher heat conduction for driver cooling and a 50mm-long, dual-layer copper coil wound on a high-temperature fiberglass former to “increase output and reduce power compression” by further helping the voice coil withstand high temperatures.

The cone of the driver is a made of a coated cellulose, pulp fiber-composite, which combines reduced mass with improved rigidity, while enhanced motor venting contributes to “increased output, improved airflow, and reduced turbulence as well as greater cooling.” A high-temperature Nomex spider featuring a progressive roll design is designed to evenly distribute mechanical stress to help keep cone motion linear during high-excursion operation. Revel said Klippel-improvements to the driver’s motor and suspension resulted in an 82 percent increase in excursion capability compared with previous drivers.

Both models have an updated 1,000-watt amplifier featuring improved limiter circuits that “protect and maximize performance” and a full complement of controls, including a crossover frequency adjustment, 0/180-degree phase switch, single-band parametric EQ, two-position EQ (normal/extended) switch, and EQ bypass. Connections include L/R line-level RCA inputs and balanced XLR inputs with selectable auto power and 12V trigger 3.5mm input and output connections for integration with custom AV systems.

Finish options for the B112V2 and B110V2 subwoofers include high-gloss walnut, black gloss, and white gloss.
