Pioneer Launches Svelte Stereo Receiver

Pioneer has introduced a versatile, hi-res-capable stereo receiver that’s less than 4 inches tall, making it slim enough to fit almost anywhere.

Rated to deliver 2 x 85 watts, the SX-S30 receiver ($500) accommodates old and new audio sources and can be controlled via Pioneer’s Remote App.

In addition to an FM tuner and phono input, it supports wireless streaming via Wi-Fi, AirPlay, or Bluetooth and a variety of audio formats, including MP3, AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless, FLAC, WAV up to 24-bit/192 kHz, and 2.8 MHz/5.6 MHz DSD. The receiver also supports popular streaming options, including Spotify Connect (via download), TuneIn Internet radio, Tidal, Deezer, and Pandora.

Even though it has only two channels, the receiver’s four HDMI inputs can handle high-level video with support for 4K/60p Ultra HD, high dynamic range, and Rec.2020 color. The HDMI output features Audio Return Channel (ARC) with CEC/CEC Multilink for more convenient control. Other connections hi-res-capable USB, analog RCA inputs, and both coaxial and optical digital inputs.

Pioneer’s automated MCACC room tuning system compensates for a number of parameters to optimize sound quality, including phase and speaker size, level, and distance.

Firmware updates scheduled for the spring and beyond will enable multiroom playback through Chromecast, DTS Play-Fi, and FireConnect
