Optoma H30 DLP Projector HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures: Optoma H30 DLP Projector

• Full-On/Full-Off Contrast Ratio: 857:1; ANSI Contrast Ratio: 240:1

• Measured Resolution with the Leader LT-446: 480/720p/1080i: 450 (the chip is 800 by 600; 800 by 450 in 16:9 mode)

• DC Restoration (poor, average, good, excellent): Excellent

• Color Decoder (poor, average, good, excellent): Good

• Measured Color Points: Red Color Point: x=0.639, y=0.354, Green Color Point: x=0.289, y=0.649, Blue Color Point: x=0.145, y=0.070

The top chart shows the H30's gray scale relative to its color temperature at various levels of intensity, or brightness (20 IRE is dark gray; 100 IRE is bright white). The gray scale as set by the factory, in the 1 color-temperature mode, the 2 gamma mode, the film picture mode, and the film image mode, measures somewhat cool across the gray scale. After making adjustments using the Photo Research PR-650, the gray scale measures within 420 kelvin of D6500, the accurate color temperature, across the entire range.

This chart shows the gray scale (or color temperature) relative to the color points of the display's red, green, and blue color-filter-wheel segments. These are fairly close to those specified by SMPTE. Green is slightly oversaturated, while red is slightly yellow.

Using a full-field 100-IRE white (9.426 foot-lamberts) and a full-field 0-IRE black (0.011 ft-L), the contrast ratio was 857:1. Using a 16-box checkerboard pattern (ANSI contrast), the contrast ratio was 240:1 The best contrast ratio was achieved in the "eco-mode on" setting. The brightest image was achieved in the "eco-mode off" setting and produced approximately 11 ft-L with a 100-IRE window (on an 87-inch-wide, 1.0-gain Da-Lite Da-Mat screen).—GM
