New Ceiling Speaker Designed for Big Bass, Max SPL

James Loudspeaker has added a high-output in-ceiling speaker to its Small Aperture (SA) line of architectural speakers.

Built to accommodate the narrow 8-inch beam widths found in newer ceiling construction and other tight spaces, the 63SA-7HO.8 ($1,400 each) is a full-range three-way system with a 6.5-inch woofer, 2-inch midrange, and 0.75-inch tweeter designed to produce deep bass and high SPL with “superb” off-axis performance from a discreet opening in the ceiling.

The drivers are housed in a 17 x 8 x 7.5-inch aircraft aluminum enclosure with a 3-inch round or 3 x 3-inch square opening and matching grille. The company says the system can be seamlessly integrated with standard 3- and 4-inch lighting trim kits.

The speaker is modular for easy servicing and equipped with power limiting circuitry. Nominal impedance is 4 ohms and rated frequency response 38 Hz–22 kHz ±3dB.

“We have expanded the Small Aperture lineup to solve the problem of narrow beam widths that our integrators have encountered in the field,” explained James Loudspeaker CEO Mark Schafle.
