New 3D Channel to Make DirecTV Debut

Hungry for 3DTV programming? If you're a DirecTV subscriber, you'll soon have a new option called 3net, a joint venture of Sony, Discovery Communications, and IMAX. The channel will offer one-hour original programs shot in 3D.

3net made its debut last night at 8 p.m. and will operate 24-7. New programs will air every night at 9 p.m.

Initial programs will include China Revealed, which "explores the thronging cities, epic vistas, and spiritual heartlands of this huge and mysterious nation." Forgotten Planet will "explore the strangest places on earth -- once vibrant cities now completely devoid of humanity." Into the Deep, an IMAX special, "takes audiences on a spectacular three-dimension exploration of the undersea world...using the IMAX 3D camera in its underwater housing for the first time."

DirecTV already offers three other 3D channels: n3D, ESPN 3D, and the pay-per-view movie channel Cinema 3D. See press release.
