LG’s New Smartphone to Get DTS:X

We know what you’re thinking (we were thinking it, too): DTS:X processing in a phone?

DTS has announced that LG will, indeed, incorporate DTS:X into the G7ThinQ smartphone slated to roll out in the U.S. in early June.

The processing has been added to deliver “enhanced audio from the device’s built-in speaker as well as headphones and earbuds, allowing users to enjoy their content anywhere.”

DTS says the technology has been optimized for G7 with the goal of providing “an ultimate mobile audio experience for playback of movies, games, and music.”

“We developed this DTS:X solution exclusively for LG mobile phones based on our long-term partnership with LG Electronics to deliver unparalleled immersive sound for their consumers,” said Jea Yoo, president of DTS parent company, Xperi. “This partnership will take the mobile entertainment experience to a whole new level.”

The potential for enhanced listening with headphones or earbuds is clear…but through the phone’s speaker? We’ll reserve judgment for now.

Now I can watch all those wide-screen 4K Marvel movies on a 6.1"-diagonal screen with overhead effects coming from speakers the size of my thumbnails!
Set me adrift in that ocean of home theater heaven!
