Leon Speakers Turns 20

Leon Speakers, the Ann Arbor, Michigan-based maker of artfully-inspired custom speakers and entertainment centers is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month.

In an open letter to “dealers, friends, family, and supporters,” Kaplan reflected on the company’s first 20 years:

This month, Leon celebrates a major milestone: our 20th anniversary. In May of 1997, we started out like a lot of companies do: a few recent college grads in a garage with a vision. We spent our first decade in business as artists and musicians, building speakers all day, painting and playing music by night. Our roots in the arts, passion for music, and drive to transform the way that people think about technology shaped our vision, which remains the same today: to mix art with audio, design with technology, and business with bohemia.

When I look back on 20 years, I think more about where we're going than where we've been. Business is like art, it's an evolution. We learn from what we've done and then we push forward. And when I think about what I've learned, I'm humbled. I've learned to listen. I've learned that I don't know it all. I've learned that I need to trust my team to help me continue to move forward. I've learned that just when I think I've hit a peak, I find there's more. More inspiration. More energy. More ideas.

The way I see it, 20 is young. It's just the beginning. Think back to when you turned 20: you were full of inspiration, indestructible, ready to take on the world. And that's what it feels like to be at Leon today. Our passion for what we do is stronger than ever and we're going to continue to push the boundaries of what's possible, constantly looking for new and unexpected ways to bring our vision to life and transform the AV industry.

So, at this pivotal time in Leon history, I offer my deepest gratitude to all of you. Thank you for being here with us on every step of this journey. We wouldn't be here today without your support.

Cheers to being 20!
