KEF Adds Spotify Connect to LS50W Wireless Speaker

KEF has announced the addition of Spotify Connect to the LS50W wireless speaker ($2,200/pair) introduced in January at CES 2017 as part of the brand’s 55th anniversary celebration.

The update is included in the latest firmware and app releases. The firmware update (version 1.1.4) can be downloaded with instructions from the support page at kef.com. The iOS version of the updated app (version 1.4.1) is available at the App Store, while the updated Android version can be downloaded on Google Play.

Once Spotify Connect is running on the LS50W, the Spotify app becomes a dedicated remote control, significantly reducing power demands of the smart device onto which it’s loaded.

The update also adds the ability to swap the Master speaker from the right channel to the left channel for setups where cabling and other issues require the Master to be placed on the left.

The LS50W is a fully active Wi-Fi-based speaker system featuring 2 x 230 watts of amplification in a bi-amp dual-mono configuration, a 192kHz/24-bit hi-res digital signal path, and a time-correcting DSP crossover, all feeding a pair of KEF’s dual-concentric Uni-Q drivers; each speaker has one 5.25-inch woofer with an integral 1-inch aluminum-dome tweeter.
