3D Blu-ray Movie Reviews

In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice, continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead - and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

This film was shot with the same camera system as Avatar. The 3D looks good, but the special effects aren’t even close to the standard set by Cameron’s vision. Still, this is a great looking Blu-ray with plenty of rich dimension and detail. The 3D is used to heighten the action and can come off a bit gimmicky, but it does add to the fun of the film. The soundtrack doesn’t quite have the refinement of sound design as the first film in this series but it manages to get the job done. There are plenty of action sequences to get the subs working and the surrounds add a lot to the soundstage.

Extras include a look at the creation of the film plus some feature commentaries. On the 2D version you get a picture-in-picture track with more insight plus some deleted scenes and a sneak peek at another addition to the franchise.

This series has kind of been in free fall since the first film. While it probably still appeals to the mainstay of fans to the game, regular audiences are left with films that seem to go more and more over the top and frankly, leave you shaking your head with all the silliness. The 3D does add a bit to the over-the-top fun of the film, but it wasn’t enough to make me want to sit through it again.
