Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2—Walt Disney Pictures

Video: 4/5
Audio: 3.5/5
Extras: 2/5

Puppy mayhem turns the lives of newlywed Chihuahua parents Papi and Chloe upside down when their rambunctious, mischievous puppies present one challenge after another. But when their human owners end up in trouble, the tiny pups will stop at nothing to save them, because in good times and hard times, the family always sticks together. So Papi, Chloe, and the puppies embark on a heroic adventure, proving once again that bug heroes come in small packages.

You never know how good a direct-to-video release will look, but Disney serves up an inspiring picture with bright primary colors, rock-solid black levels, and stable contrast. Flesh tones vary from accurate to a little too golden, but that's mostly to do with the principle photography. The DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack is decent enough for a kid's movie and features active surround effects and a wide stereo spread across the front.

The 2-disc combo pack includes the Blu-ray feature film on disc one along with an interactive game, a blooper reel, and a music video from Bridgit Mendley. The second disc includes a DVD copy of the film along with the bloopers and music video in standard-definition.

Our family pet is a Chihuahua mix so we have an affinity towards this breed of dog. The story was much better than we thought it would be and the little pups are adorable. If you're looking for some innocent fun with the kids, this one is certainly worth a rental.
