Home Theater Fans Can Shorten Their Most Wanted DVD Lists

Adventure fans are still waiting for the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films, but Universal Studios Home Video has promised to release Speilberg's Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park on DVD as Collector's Editions on October 10, 2000. Both titles will be available with Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS 5.1 audio (in place of some of the added features) and anamorphic widescreen for $26.98 retail each.

The studio says that both DVD releases will feature a DVD first: A DVD-ROM link to a "live" webcast and chat with the cast and crew from the production set of Jurassic Park III, the sequel to the other two titles planned for release next year. Universal adds that The Lost World will feature the never-before-released documentary, The Making of The Lost World.

Universal says that they will also release the Jurassic Park/Lost World Deluxe Box Set, containing both DVDs in addition to the CD soundtracks, which will be packaged in a specially-designed collector's box for $120. An additional gift set, the Jurassic Park/Lost World Collection, includes both DVD titles in a slipcase and will be priced at $54.

Both DVDs will also feature bonus features intended to lure consumers. The Jurassic Park DVD includes The Making of Jurassic Park documentary, behind-the-scenes footage of pre-production meetings, animatics by Oscar-winning special effects creator Phil Tippett, production photographs, a dinosaur encyclopedia, storyboards, production notes, cast & filmmakers bios and theatrical trailers. The Lost World DVD contains similar features: the Making of the Lost World documentary featuring behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast and film crew, deleted scenes, illustrations and early conceptual drawings, storyboards, models, theatrical trailers, a dinosaur encyclopedia and cast & filmmaker bios.
