HBO to Release Complete GoT Collection on Blu-ray

HBO has announced plans to release a limited-edition DVD/Blu-ray boxed set encompassing all eight seasons of the Game of Thrones just in time for Christmas and singled out Season 8 for release on 4K/Ultra HD Blu-ray.

The Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection, packaged a wooden shadow box featuring multi-layered panel designs by Robert Ball, the artist behind the “Beautiful Death” poster series, is slated to arrive on December 3rd along with two Season 8 sets — one on DVD/Blu-ray, the other on Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray with Steelbook packaging. The complete collection will also be available as a standard boxed set without special packaging.

With a runtime of about 75 hours plus 15 hours of bonus content, the complete collection covers 73 episodes and includes never-before-seen deleted and extended scenes, animated histories and lore pieces, behind-the-scene featurettes, 10 audio commentaries, and Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, a DVD documentary by filmmaker Jeanie Finlay that chronicles the making of the final season.

But the heart of the package is a two-part reunion special hosted by Conan O’Brien in front of a live audience and assembled in segments focused on Houses Lannister, Stark, and Targaryen. The special features cast members from the final season — including Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, and Sophie Turner — as well as previously departed fan-favorites Sean Bean, Jason Momoa, and Mark Addy and concludes with key players reflecting on the years they shared in Westeros and Essos. Footage from the show and behind-the-scenes segments are woven into the show.

The collection also includes…
When Winter Falls – A 30-minute featurette that breaks down the filming of the “Battle of Winterfell” in Season 8, Episode 3;
Duty is the Death of Love – A compelling look at how the team behind GoT and its stars brought the show to its conclusion in the series finale, “The Iron Throne.”

In the limited-edition box, a metal “Hand of the King” pin clasp holds the set’s discs in place and each layer of the shadow box represents a season, showcasing iconic characters and memorable moments.

Based on the best-selling novel series by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones is the most awarded series in television history, earning of 132 Emmy nominations and 47 wins to date. The series also stands as HBO’s most-viewed program ever, with the final season averaging a record-setting 44 million viewers in the U.S.

The ensemble cast includes Emmy- and Golden Globe-winner Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), and Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont).
