Going Green in 2009

Putting words in actions, 280 electronics recycling locations just opened across the country. There's at least one per state, and the number of locations should grow to 800 nationwide by 2011.

These locations are a joint venture by Sharp, Toshiba and Panasonic.  The very creative name is Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Co., known as MRM for short. For locations near you, click here

“MRM is focused on enhancing the environmental sustainability of individual company brands and product offerings through convenient, environmentally sound and efficient recycling,” said MRM President David Thompson.  “With the establishment of the nationwide recycling program, one of most comprehensive in the industry, we have proven that collaborative effort is the most effective way to provide consumers with convenient recycling opportunities. MRM is committed to eliminating the export of hazardous electronic waste to developing countries.”

They'll take products from other manufacturers too. So, if you've upgraded to DTV, and you better get busy on that, there's an easy and safe way to properly dispose of all those old, outdated TVs. Get rid of those VCRs while you're at it. —Leslie Shapiro
