Edifier’s New Speakers Break All the Rules

Edifier, a global supplier of speakers and headphones, has applied the high-style design of its Luna speaker to a six-piece home theater speaker combo with looks that kill.

Between the fire-engine-red finish and ovoid-shaped speakers of the Luna Theatre e255 system, it’s obvious the Beijing-based company has broken all the rules when it comes to speaker aesthetics. Whether the design goes too far is for you to decide, but one thing’s for sure: the world definitely doesn’t need another boring square or rectangular speaker.

The $1,000 system comprises four satellite speakers, a center speaker with a built-in preamp and Dolby Pro Logic II/DTS surround processor, and a powered subwoofer. The two rear satellites and subwoofer each require a power connection but audio signal transmission is wireless.

Total system power is 400 watts, which includes 220 watts for the subwoofer’s 8-inch woofer plus 5 x 36 watts for the satellites and center speaker, each of which teams a 0.75-inch silk-dome tweeter with a 3-inch midrange driver. The back panel of the center speaker sports three optical digital inputs and an analog minijack input.

System control is via a compact remote control and OLED status display on the front of the center speaker.
