Upgraded Denon Heos Speakers Now Available

Denon has announced that the upgraded Series 2 versions of the four wireless speakers in its Heos line are now available.

Carrying the HS2 designation, the updated Heos 1 ($200), Heos 3 ($300), Heos 5 ($400), and Heos 7 ($600) speakers support Bluetooth streaming and compatibility with uncompressed WAV (PCM), ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec), and FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) music files up to 24-bit/192-kHz over the network or via USB. Support for DSD and AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) is also coming soon, according to Denon. The new Heos platform includes an ARM A9 1.25 GHz processor with 512 MB of flash memory and 256 MB of RAM.

Denon introduced Heos in 2014 with three speakers and a Wi-Fi extender, and limited support from music streaming services. Today, the system supports Spotify, Pandora, TuneIn, Rhapsody, iHeart Radio, Tidal, SiriusXM, Soundcloud, and Amazon Music.

On the hardware side, Denon has since added a preamp for bringing an existing audio system into to the wireless network, an amplifier for adding wireless capability to existing speakers, an indoor/outdoor speaker, and a soundbar/subwoofer system.
