Control Yourself on the Cheap

Remote Technologies, Inc, a residential and commercial control products manufacturer more known to custom installers than the average retail consumer, is introducing three new keypads that will help the company's name appear in a broader range of homes with multi-room entertainment systems. RTI says the keypads are completely customizable, programmable, and upgradeable.

Each one of the three keypads is designed to fit in a single-gang wall outlet and includes a self-contained control system capable of controlling lights, audio/video components, or other electronics throughout a home. Because the control system is built-in, the keypads work without the need for an external, sophisticated, central control unit. This greatly reduces the cost and programming complexity of a basic multi-room control system. As you might guess from the model numbers the RK1-2 incorporates two buttons, the RK1-4 includes four buttons, and the RK1-8 sports eight buttons. Each button is fully-programmable, can be custom labeled with text and symbols, and has a backlight that can display a variety of colors.

The new RTI keypads have a clean, neutral visual appearance and are designed to be used with Decora-style wall plates. They are expected to be available by the end of this year through custom installation companies. The MSRP is $199 each.
