Comcast has a new nicety for texting-oriented subscribers. With COMCAST4U, they can now access cable TV listings and other account information via SMS.

To get info, Comcast users can text a command to Comcast4U or 266278, followed by NOW to get TV listings, PRIMETIME for the evening lineup, VOD for video on demand listings, or SPORTS for skeds and scores. Account information is available too: BAL for account balance, OUT for outages, HIT to reset the set-top box, CALLME to request a call from customer support (shown in photo), NOAPT to cancel service calls, or LOC to find a payment center.

You won't need a smart phone, just any text-compatible phone. The text service will work through "all major providers." It will not cost anything beyond the usual cost of cable service.

COMCAST4U is currently available to Comcast customers in Philadelphia and its suburbs, along with parts of New Jersey and Delaware. It will be available across the nation by the first half of 2011.
