Comcast Goes Multi-Room
The multi-room DVR uses the MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance) platform which was codeveloped by Comcast, Panasonic, strange bedfellows EchoStar and Verizon, and other outfits. In addition to multi-room DVR, MoCA also supports multi-player gaming, video and photo sharing, and video and photo transfer to the TV.
Comcast's Anyroom DVR uses a central DVR with 500GB hard drive to fling programming around the room to nearby set top boxes (which have no drives). The DVR is a Motorola DXX3501-M with dual cable tuners. Users can both view and control programming from each STB. The service is available in 20 markets including Oregon, Washington, the San Francisco Bay area, western Massachusetts, August, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Little Rock, Chicago, and Pennsylvania.
See Comcast AnyRoom. For specs, see Engadget.
