BenQ Unveils i500 Smart Projector

BenQ says its about-to-be-released i500 mini DLP projector offers a new way to wirelessly stream “larger-than-life images in limited spaces, all without the hassle of connecting cables, media boxes, dongles, or portable devices.”

The Android-based, short-throw projector, which goes on sale July 22 goes for $749, is not only stylish but smart: It has a built-in media player and comes preloaded with apps that makes it easy to launch popular streaming services such as YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify, Netflix, Hulu, and others without having to break out the cables. It also has a USB port so you can play video directly from a thumb drive.

Among its many talents, the i500 supports Bluetooth streaming, uses an LED lamp rated for up to 20,000 hours of use, and can project images as big as 80 inches (diagonal) when placed only 3.3 feet from the wall, according to BenQ. Colorific technology is said to improve clarity and sharpness with an HD input. Native resolution is WXGA (1200 x 800).

The projector weighs 2.8 pounds and measures 8.5 x 8 x 3.5 inches, making it easy to transport.
