BenQ Ships $2,500 Midline 4K DLP Projector

The latest 4K DLP projector in BenQ’s CinePrime series of home theater-focused models is available starting today.

Priced at $2,499, the midline HT5550 employs the company’s CinematicColor technology and is said to achieve 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space in addition to supporting HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) high dynamic range (HDR) content. BenQ’s HDR-Pro processor employs “autocolor and tone mapping techniques” to optimize the image and improve brightness and contrast.

The projector is calibrated at the factory for “precise D65 color temperature, gamma, black level, white level, neutral grey, RGBCMY color tracking, hue, saturation, brightness, and output based on DCI-P3 and Rec. 709.” Factory reports detailing the results of the calibrations are included with the projector.

Image and color performance can be customized using the Imaging Science Foundation’s ISFccc calibration mode, which includes Day and Night presets, and BenQ’s proprietary CinemaMaster Video+ technology provides motion-adaptive 4K pixel enhancement for enhanced color and “natural flesh-tone rendition.”

The HT5550 is equipped with a generous 1.6x zoom with ±60% vertical/±23% horizontal lens shift to accommodate a variety of mounting/placement options. Brightness is rated at 1,800 lumens and contrast ratio at 100,000:1 thanks to the projector’s sophisticated dynamic iris system.

Connections include a pair of HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2-complaint HDMI ports, 3.5mm analog and optical audio outputs, a USB 3.0 input for playing back content from a thumb drive, a 12-volt trigger, and an RS-232C control connection.

The rated life span of the HT5550’s lamp is 4,000 hours with normal use or 10,000 hours in SmartEco mode.
