Atlantic Tech Ships Gatecrasher 1 Wireless Speaker

Atlantic Technology has announced that the Gatecrasher 1 smart speaker it previewed in June is now available on for $499.

The first in a series of “smart multiroom wireless speakers,” the Wi-Fi-based tabletop system features integrated streaming and internet radio options and supports voice control when an Amazon Alexa-based or Google Home smart speaker is connected via its auxiliary input. The company plans to integrate Amazon Alexa voice control directly into the system via an automatic firmware update slated for release in the future.

The system is a 2.1-channel design with two 0.75-inch aluminum dome tweeters, a pair of 2-inch midbass drivers, and a 4-inch woofer coupled to a down-firing 5-inch passive radiator, all housed in a cabinet made of high-density MDF with a Makassar ebony or a piano black lacquer finish over real-wood veneer. A 60-watt Class D digital amplifier powers the system.

Onboard music options include Bluetooth/aptX streaming, vTuner internet radio, and streaming services Spotify, Tidal, Deezer, and Qobuz. The system also supports several file formats, including AAC, AAC+, MP3, WAV, WMA, and FLAC.

System set-up and control are described as simple using the free Atlantic Technology Gatecrasher app, available for Android and iOS devices. The speaker can also be controlled via a top-mounted control pad with membrane buttons for volume, track selection, audio presets, and more. The control panel changes color so listeners can easily identify which source is playing.

The system is DLNA-compliant for synchronized streaming throughout the home or sending audio to selected zones, and it can stream from a Bluetooth or aux-in source to one or more Gatecrasher 1 speakers.
