4K Streaming Trial Opens Door to Future Events

Recent success with streaming trials of live 4K sporting events, including the first live North American soccer broadcast in 4K by Univision Deportes on February 10, will lead to more live 4K streaming events through the summer, according to Sony. The game/test event, which took place at Marlins Park in Miami, was streamed live to audiences in Florida, New York, and California via late model Sony HDR-capable 4K Ultra HD TVs, which have NeuLion’s 4K streaming platform integrated.

Upcoming live 4K streaming events will include the final game of the Copa America Centenario men’s soccer tournament, which will take place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, home of the New York Jets and New York Giants, on June 26.

"These 4K live streaming tests reveal that the streaming and broadcast of live 4K sports is on its way to consumers in the near future," said Sunil Nayyar, Sony’s director of product marketing, TV and projectors, North America.

As the lineup of 4K events grows, Univision Deportes and NeuLion are expected to deliver “new 4K services” to devices like Sony's 4K UHD HDR TVs.

"NeuLion is very excited to partner with Univision and Sony to create an end-to-end solution for the delivery, monetization and distribution of live 4K video on the world's most popular devices," said Dr. Kanaan Jemili, CEO of NeuLion.

Live 4K streaming events can be accessed on XBR-X850D and XBR-X930D/XBR-X940D series UHD TVs using an Android TV app, according to Sony.
