The real collectors' version of the new Star Trek movie might not be some multi-disc Blu-ray release. It might not even be high-def. British media shopping site Play.com has posted a limited edition Star Trek USB drive.

Each drive is a 4 gigabyte USB stick nestled inside a "Delta Shield" (the signature Star Trek logo). The movie takes up 1 gigabyte, giving you another 3GB to load up with, say, other Star Trek movies.

The USB version isn't exactly a feature-rich release. It's a standard-definition version encoded in protected DivX format, playable on up to 5 systems, with an option to burn the film to DVD. If you want things like J.J. Abrams' commentary or a featurette on Zachary Quinto making his eyebrows even more freaky for the role of Spock, you're out of luck. On the other hand, it's a limited release, and when all of the USB keys sell out, they'll be gone for good. So Star Trek collectors have a reason to shell out the nearly $30US for the key.

It's only shown up on Play.com, and there is no word yet on a U.S. release of the key.
