Stuck—Image Entertainment (Blu-ray)

Video: 3/5
Audio: 3.5/5
Extras: 3/5

Mena Suvari stars as Brandi, a hard-partying, overworked nursing assistant who accidentally steers her car into a homeless man sending him flying through the windshield. Not wanting to jeopardize a possible job promotion, she chooses not to get him medical help, leaving him clinging to life in her garage. But soon her psyche begins to unravel as captor and captive are pitted against each other in a bloody...even outrageous battle...for survival.

Stuart Gordon has always had a flare for outrageously dark horror films and this is no exception. The fact that this is loosely based on a real event makes it even more disturbing. This is not a film for the squeamish but anyone that loves dark and twisted comedy/horror should take note.

The HD presentation has a very film-like quality to it that seems a bit soft compared to most of the Blu-ray films we’ve been seeing. Detail is adequate in close ups but never really shines. Depth of image is decent though and the color palette is very natural and at times gruesome. Considering this is more of an independent film, the look of the presentation is pretty much as expected.

Image delivers the soundtrack is lossless DTS-HD Master Audio and overall it has a nice airy quality with great tonal balance from the dialogue. Surrounds are used more often than I would expect from this type of film and deliver a very convincing atmosphere. A brief club sequence delivers some nice range in the low end and a pretty convincing soundscape.

Extras include a feature commentary along with a couple production features that look at the make-up effects and actual events that inspired the film. You also get some interviews from its run at the Dallas film festival and the trailer.

This was definitely a bizarre and disturbing horror film and exactly what I would expect from director Stuart Gordon. Image has done a decent job with the presentation overall and fans of Gordon’s other works should give this one a look.
