In this heartwarming hilarious comedy Christopher C-Dub Wang is a Chinese-American gangsta-talking wannabe who tries to save the family business by playing in a ping pong tournament. With some surprising help from an unusual group of kids anything could happen!

This is an offbeat comedy with lots of good laughs but it didn’t really grab me as much as it has other reviewers. It reminded me of Dodgeball in some ways and it plays a lot of stereotypes but with honest laughs. The production feels pretty low-key and some of the acting was pretty bad but if you like a good over the top comedy this is at least worth a rent.

The HD image is good but not great. Fine detail is a bit obscured and the image has a very alive grain structure that also has a touch of video noise in it. I didn’t notice any ringing but detail does look a tad enhanced at times giving the image a bit of a hard look to it. Colors are vibrant with nice saturation and contrast levels are decent overall. While not a bad looking transfer it just didn’t stand out or captivate nearly as much as most HD transfer lately.

The soundtrack is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio and fits the film nicely. This isn’t an aggressive sound design and most of the body of the track stems from the soundtrack selections. Low bass extension is good for the most part and some of the hip hop selections provide some rich low end. Dialogue is definitely the center piece of the mix and comes off intelligible with no signs of strain. The surround soundstage does have some decent atmosphere but the front soundstage is the dominant factor.

Extras include a feature commentary with the director and lead actor along with some features on ping pong and the production. The trailer is also included.

This one didn’t impress me too much making it a rental recommendation at most. The A/V presentation is good though so if you’re already a fan I’m sure you’ll be more than pleased.
