Platonic friends since college have never entertained the prospect of romance - he's a womanizer who never wanted to commit; she wants marriage but has never found the right man. Just as he begins to think he's ready to settle, she gets engaged to a handsome Scotsman - and asks her longtime male pal to be her "maid" of honor. He agrees, but only so he can sabotage the wedding and woo her before it's too late.

I was a bit hesitant going in on this one as the trailers did nothing for me and I’m not a big fan of Patrick Dempsey. Thankfully this one turned out to be pretty fun. It does dip into some silly comedy moments from time to time but the film manages to stay afloat with solid performances and some nice emotional points. While I wouldn’t call it one of the better romcoms out there, this is definitely a solid date night flick.

Sony delivers a solid HD presentation for this one with great fine object detail and excellent depth of image. The photography has a very natural look to it and the use of CG to clean up the actor’s faces early on didn’t prove nearly as distracting as I would have expected. Colors are gorgeous in the Scotland backdrop and I was impressed with the level of dimensionality throughout the film. A solid presentation from Sony.

Like most comedies this isn’t a showcase title for lossless audio. The mix does have a nice open feel to it with solid ambiance and space from the surround soundstage but the mix isn’t overly dynamic. Dialogue has no signs of strain and tonal balance is dead on.

Extras include two making of featurettes that give a promotional style behind the scenes look at the film. A director’s commentary and deleted scenes are also included. This title is BD-Live enabled allowing end users access to Sony’s BD Live site and its content.

Despite my reservations going in, this one ended up being a fun addition to the genre. The film has its charms and the A/V presentation is another winner for Sony.
