Focal Debuts Super Flexible Atmos Speaker System

Focal today introduced a new flagship home theater system configured as a 5.1.2-channel Dolby Atmos setup with two height speakers.

The new Dôme Flax 5.1.2 speaker system adds two ICW-4 ceiling speakers to the existing Dôme Flax 5.1 system featuring five Dôme Flax satellite speakers and Focal’s Sub Air wireless subwoofer. Pricing for an eight-piece 5.1.2 package is $2,499 in black or white. The six-piece 5.1 package is $1,999; additional ICW-4 or satellite speakers cost $399 each.

The ICW-4 uses the same tweeter and 4-inch woofer as the satellite speakers to ensure timbre-matched sound all around. Focal said the ICW-4’s voice coil, surround, and spider have been modified for to accommodate its open-baffle design.

Focal has also modified the ICW-4’s mounting system to simplify installation: Once the hole is cut, the mounting frame is fixed to the ceiling (or wall) with brackets and the speaker attached to the frame via a quarter-turn locking mechanism that snaps the speaker in place with little effort.

The freestanding satellite speaker has an integral stand with a swiveling head that makes it easy to manipulate for optimum sound or install or on a wall.

All speakers use cones manufactured in Saint-Etienne, France using locally grown flax. The unique material is described as light and rigid with excellent damping and sound propagation characteristics.
