After a few months of living with multiple Alexa-powered speakers, I have come to loathe finding my TV's remote control and hitting the button that turns on the set. Polk knows how I feel. The company bowed to the inevitable tonight by introducing the Command Bar, the first Alexa-powered soundbar.

CES is a crazy, hectic week of running around from press conference to manufacturer’s booths, meetings and deadlines. When Audio-Technica offered demos of their new ATH-ANC700BT QuietPoint noise-cancelling headphones along with a 15-minute professional massage, it was an irresistible treat, and the perfect way to wrap up the show.

Relative newcomer to the headphone industry (but old-timer in the mic business), Blue is shaking things up with a different way of dealing with noise cancelling sounds. While most headphones use a single driver, Blue’s wireless, over-ear Satellite uses a separate driver specifically for the sounds used to cancel out noise. Different, right?

The dancing robots and talking smart speakers get all the attention at CES, but there is still a strong showing of traditional audio products. They don't light up or take selfies. They just sound really good.

If you’re like most of the world, that means starting the day off with a steaming cup of Joe. You brew a pot or K-cup or whatever and then pour it into your travel mug and head off to work, hoping that your insulated vessel will keep the precious liquid hot enough for you to get your day started. Or you start with a cold drink in a thermos, likewise hoping it will keep cold throughout the day. But what if your bottle could do more than just contain liquid? What if it could heat it to maintain your desired temperature throughout the day? Or likewise cool it? Or even boil water to purify it for drinking or for use with freeze-dried food packs while camping? Or if it could actually be used to blend up your smoothie or to brew your coffee? I give you…the Cauldryn Fyre!

CES has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the summer of 1967 as a TV/audio show staged at New York City’s Hilton and Americana hotels. The inaugural show featured 250 exhibitors and attracted 17,500 attendees, eager to check out the latest color TVs from the likes of RCA and Sylvania, pocket transistor radios, and hi-fi gear from Fisher, Marantz, Acoustic Research, KLH, and many other now-iconic brands.
