Many installers - and users! - have spent hours developing custom templates and graphics for their touchscreen remotes from other manufacturers, making it difficult to jump ship to a new brand. Universal Electronics has addressed this with their PCF/CCF Quick Convert. This converts files in other popular remote formats (such as Philips' Pronto) to Nevo file format, allowing you to save all that custom work and load it directly into your Nevo.

A final programming trick up Nevo's high-tech sleeve is the ability to restore/upload projects from the remote without loss. In an emergency when the original program isn't available - say your hard drive crashes or the installer is no longer in business - the program can be retrieved from the remote. This can save hours of expensive reprogramming time.

Since my original review, a Hewlett-Packard Media Center Edition PC has found its way into my system. This allowed me to test another of Nevo's new tricks: support for the DVR-MS file format. This lets Nevo browse and select videos that are recorded on Media Center Edition PCs. If your home theater includes a MCE PC, Nevo will be a natural fit, enabling you to navigate all of your files - photos, music, video - right on the remote without have to boot up your entire system. Slick!

This latest software suite shows that Universal Electronics is committed to NevoSL and that this remote will continue to evolve to remain on the cutting edge. If you are in the market for a high-end controller, it is definitely worth a look.
