Pro-Ject Audio Systems Thinks Beyond the Box

Pro-Ject Audio Systems’ Box lineup has grown substantially since the company first started offering the mini-sized components. Although the RS Series represents the best boxes Pro-Ject makes, it is now being exceeded by a new series called RS2 that consists of a CD transport and DAC.

Making its debut at Munich 2019, the Pre Box RS2 Digital (shown above) is a high-res-capable, upsampling DAC with coaxial, optical, and HDMI digital inputs, and both XLR and RCA analog inputs. It also provides Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a USB Type-B port for computer playback. Audio outputs include XLR and RCA connections.

Pro-Ject’s CD Box RS2 T transport connects to the RS2 Digital using an I²S + Masterclock output over HDMI and features an all-new drive mechanism created by fellow Viennese manufacturer StreamUnlimited. In addition to its HDMI connection, the RS2 T transport features AES/EBU, coaxial, and optical digital outputs for linking to DACs other than the RS2 Digital.

The RS2 T transport will ship this summer for $2,300 and the Pre Box RS2 Digital later in 2019 for around $2,900.
