MiCon Audio Evo-2 Home Theater System HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures: MiCon Audio DTP-8 Pre/Pro

Analog frequency response in Stereo mode: –1.69 dB at 10 Hz; –0.49 dB at 20 Hz –0.41 dB at 20 kHz; –47.81 dB at 50 kHz.

The above chart shows the frequency response of the left (aqua), center (green), and left surround (red) channels at the preamp outputs of the Dolby Digital decoder. The left channel measures –0.02 decibels at 20 hertz and –0.07 dB at 20 kilohertz. The center channel measures –13.55 dB at 20 Hz and +0.02dB at 20 kHz. Please note that, due to an anomaly in this prototype sample, the center channel was stuck in small mode. The left surround channel measures –0.03 dB at 20 Hz and –0.11 dB at 20 kHz.

Response from the multichannel input to the main output measures –0.13 dB at 10 Hz, –0.03 dB at 20 Hz, –0.02X dB at 20 kHz, and –0.11 dB at 50 kHz. The analog THD+N is less than 0.026% at 1 kHz with a 100-millivolt input and the volume control set to 88. Crosstalk with a 100-mV input was –87.52 dB left to right and –84.43 dB right to left. The signal-to-noise ratio with a 100-mV input from 10 Hz to 24 kHz with "A" weighting was –109.04 dBrA.—MJP

HT Labs Measures: MiCon Audio Evo-2 Speaker System

L/R Sensitivity: 89 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

Center Sensitivity: 91 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

Surround Sensitivity: 91 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the Evo-2 L/R (purple trace), Evo-2 subwoofer (blue trace), Evo-2 center channel (green trace), and Evo-2 surround (red trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.

The Evo-2 L/R's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.04/–5.57 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3dB point is at 59 Hz, and the –6dB point is at 50 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.23 ohms at 96 Hz and a phase angle of –42.28 degrees at 3.7 kHz.

The Evo-2 center's listening-window response measures +2.66/–6.55 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +2.76/–8.03 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3dB point is at 65 Hz, and the –6dB point is at 55 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 5.74 ohms at 174 Hz and a phase angle of –40.28 degrees at 3.7 kHz.

The Evo-2 surround's three-face averaged response measures +3.96/–3.16 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3dB point is at 64 Hz, and the –6dB point is at 54 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.35 ohms at 200 Hz and a phase angle of –37.28 degrees at 3.6 kHz.

The Evo-2 subwoofer's close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3dB point is at 23 Hz and the –6dB point is at 20 Hz. The upper –3dB point is at 335 Hz without a crossover.—MJP
