LG’s Ultra-Short-Throw Projector Is Big on Style

LG’s new 8K and rollup OLED TVs may be getting the bulk of the attention at CES, but the company is also demonstrating its next-generation CineBeam Laser 4K ultra-short-throw projector.

With a furniture-like white-and-gray case, the HU85L sports a considerably more living room-friendly design than its predecessor. The 4K pixel-shifting DLP model features HDR10 and wide color gamut support and uses dual red/blue lasers to beam images up to 120 inches diagonal from a 7-inch throw distance. It has LG’s webOS smart TV interface for media streaming and responds to voice commands barked into the projector’s remote control. (Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatibility are being considered, though no firm announcement was made at the show.) Bluetooth output allows for easy integration with a separate soundbar.

The HU85L will be available in the June/July timeframe. Pricing hasn’t been announced but is expected to be under $5,000.
