GoldenEar Technology opted out of an active demo at CES 2019. Instead, company founder Sandy Gross could be found chilling in his suite on the 29th floor of the Venetian alongside his most recent creation, the Triton One.R.

Elac’s new Carina series speakers are the first Andrew Jones-designed models from the company to incorporate an air-motion transformer (AMT) tweeter module—the same type seen in speakers from GoldenEar Technology, MartinLogan, and others.

When PSB launched its entry-level Alpha series over 25 years ago, they were hailed as one the greatest values in low-cost loudspeakers right out of the gate. Now, the long-running line has undergone a full revision—only its second in nearly three decades—with the introduction of the new T20 tower speakers ($599/pr), P3 ($199/pr) and P5 ($299/pr) bookshelf speakers, and C10 ($349) center-channel speaker. All models are available in both black ash and walnut woodgrain vinyl finishes.

Harman set up shop at CES in sprawling suite of ballrooms at the Hard Rock Hotel. Once I wandered past exhibits dedicated to connected automotive tech, cybersecurity, and a host of other things I had no idea the company was involved in, I landed in a cozy corner where JBL’s vintage-inspired speakers were on display. Ahhhh….

Relative newcomer Edifier is showing off an impressive array of new speakers at CES 2019. As the first serious audio brand from mainland China to make an impact on the world market, the brand is probably making some of the older, more established brands a bit nervous.

You wake up and turn on your desktop speakers, then go for a run with earbuds, then listen to music on your drive to work. Terrific. But your music sounds different on each of the three playback systems, and none of them are particularly tuned to your liking. Sonarworks wants to fix that.

It’s kind of rare for a demo to really make an impression on me. Not that I’m jaded, but I’ve “been there, done that” with so much of today’s tech. Yet today at CES, Creative’s demonstration of their updated Super X-Fi holographic imagery for headphones pretty much blew me away.

Sony’s new addition to its Master Series LCD Ultra HDTV lineup includes 85- and 98-inch 8K models. The 98-inch Z9G (shown above) seems the appropriate size for watching future 8K content, something that the set’s HDMI 2.1 inputs will accommodate.
