Focal Chorus 800 V Speaker System HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures: Focal Chorus 800 V Speaker System

• L/R Sensitivity: 88.5 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

• Center Sensitivity: 88 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

• Surround Sensitivity: 89 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the 826 V L/R (purple trace), SW 800 V subwoofer (blue trace), CC 800 V center channel (green trace), and SR 800 V surround (red trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured with grilles at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.

The 826 V's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +2.13/–3.79 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3-dB point is at 46 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 38 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 3.56 ohms at 114 Hz and a phase angle of –60.21 degrees at 70 Hz.

The CC 800 V's listening-window response measures +2.45/–2.25 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +2.13/–2.66 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 74 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 63 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.42 ohms at 200 Hz and a phase angle of –47.36 degrees at 111 Hz.

The SR 800 V's three-face averaged response measures +2.62/–4.76 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 84 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 76 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 4.43 ohms at 254 Hz and a phase angle of –42.49 degrees at 120 Hz.

The SW 800 V's close-miked response with the Boost switch on, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3-dB point is at 39 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 37 Hz. The upper –3-dB point is at 110 Hz using the LFE input.—MJP

a pretty good review.. Personally, Focal is in my top 5 of favorite Speaker Brands and definitely my favorite Tweeters of any Conventional Speaker out there. Recently I found find similar review about focal chorus Link- http://audiosolutions.net.au/sydney-audio-solutions/products/focal/focal...

I auditioned nearly the complete Focal 800 series at a dealer, and I was truly impressed. In the final audition, the sales person was using a CD supplied by Focal for demoing the speakers (836V). One of the tracks was Stevie Ray Vaughn, more than any other speaker I've ever heard, the sound was completely disembodied from amps and speakers, and seem to float in the air.

Though I suspect, the Focal CD had very carefully controlled dynamics to maximize the sound quality. But none the less I found the full Focal 800 line to be stunningly clear and detailed. And certainly well worth their considerable price. This was especially true in the bass. More than any other speaker I've heard, with the Focal I heard Bass Guitar rather than generic bass. Even the largest Focal doesn't have the ultra-low bass response that we think we would want, but the bass had incredible detail, and not the slightest hint of drone.

Truly an impressive series of speakers.
