Crystal Blue Persuasion

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Danish speaker maker Dynaudio released a special-edition model called the Sapphire in 2007. Limited to 1000 pairs worldwide, the final 30 will be wrapped in an exclusive gloss-blue piano-lacquer finish.

One hallmark of the Sapphire is its distinctive bass-reflex cabinet with 12 non-parallel surface planes that form an extremely rigid enclosure while minimizing internal standing waves. Two 8-inch, magnesium-silicate polymer (MSP) woofers incorporate 3-inch aluminum voice coils and neodymium double-magnet systems, while the midrange is handled by one 6-inch, dispersion-optimized MSP driver in its own isolated compartment. At the top is Dynaudio's Esotar2 tweeter, a 1-inch soft-dome design with a specially shaped internal damping chamber. Taken together, these drivers provide an overall frequency response from 30Hz to 25kHz (±3dB).

The exclusive gloss-blue finish will be available at no additional cost above the Sapphire's list price of $16,500/pair. However, if you want to own this collector's item, you'd better act fast—Dynaudio expects to deliver the last pair within the next three or four months. And who wouldn't want the performance, style, and exclusivity offered by these beauties?
