Vivitek Unwraps Ultra Short-Throw and Ultra HD projectors

Vivitek had lots of new stuff to show off at CEDIA, including an ultra short-throw projector and an Ultra HD model that also happens to be ultra-inexpensive.

The DH768Z-UST ($3500) is a laser-driven ultra short-throw DLP projector that beams 1080p images at screen sizes ranging from 80 to 150 inches from a distance of 1 to 2.25 feet. Brightness is spec’d at 3500 lumens and the laser light source is designed to last for up to 20,000 hours.

At $2800, the HK2299 is about as low as prices go for a projector that displays at Ultra HD resolution. The lamp-based DLP model manages ultra high-rez via Texas Instruments’ XPR pixel shift technology and is spec’d to deliver 2000 lumens brightness. An ultra HD clip Vivitek screened on the the HK2299 of various birds of prey looked strikingly sharp, while the UST model showed impressive contrast in the darkened room where it was displayed.

The DH768Z-UST and HK2299 are both available now.
