Monitor Audio Platinum PL300 Speaker System HT Labs Measures

HT Labs Measures

L/R Sensitivity: 90 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
Center Sensitivity: 91.5 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz
Surround Sensitivity: 88 dB from 500 Hz to 2 kHz

This graph shows the quasi-anechoic (employing close-miking of all woofers) frequency response of the PL300 L/R (purple trace), PLW-15 subwoofer (blue trace), PLC350 center channel (green trace), and PL100 surround (red trace). All passive loudspeakers were measured with grilles at a distance of 1 meter with a 2.83-volt input and scaled for display purposes.

The PL300’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +0.66/–2.33 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. The –3-dB point is at 41 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 34 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 6.14 ohms at 99 Hz and a phase angle of –39.00 degrees at 61 Hz.

The PLC350’s listening-window response measures +1.65/–3.23 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +1.71/–3.10 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 51 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 43 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 6.17 ohms at 102 Hz and a phase angle of –37.70 degrees at 66 Hz.

The PL100’s listening-window response measures +2.05/–2.52 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz. The –3-dB point is at 56 Hz, and the –6-dB point is at 51 Hz. Impedance reaches a minimum of 5.10 ohms at 190 Hz and a phase angle of –42.61 degrees at 93 Hz.

The PLW-15’s close-miked response, normalized to the level at 80 Hz, indicates that the lower –3-dB point is at 38 Hz and the –6-dB point is at 29 Hz. The upper –3-dB point is at 143 Hz using the LFE input and setting the EQ mode for maximum extension.—MJP
