JVC Launches New 8K Projector Lineup

JVC’s projector line is getting a refresh, with three new models ranging in price from $9,999.95 to $24,999.95. All models employ the company's BLU-Escent laser diode light source—a feature previously available only in the flagship DLA-RS4500—along with its proprietary 8K/e-shift technology. They are also outfitted with 8K60p/4K120p-capable HDMI inputs (48Gbps)—a first for a home theater projector, according to JVC.

The flagship DLA-NZ9/RS4100 (shown) features a premium 100mm diameter all-glass lens plus ultra-high contrast optics and 8K e-shiftX. Other models are outfitted with a 65mm diameter all-glass lens with 17 elements in 15 groups, a design that allows them “to deliver high-resolution images that are in focus all the way to the periphery of the screen.”

JVC’s press announcement for the new projectors goes on to state that the “combination of a high-power laser diode package and a highly efficient optical engine achieves a high luminance of 3,000lm,” while the laser diode “allows instantaneous control of light output, enabling dynamic brightness adjustment with less delay compared to conventional mechanical apertures.”

Another key feature of the new projector line is support for HDR10+, a high dynamic range format found on 4K/Blu-ray and streaming releases that uses dynamic metadata. As with earlier JVC models, the new projectors feature the company’s Frame Adapt HDR function, which analyzes HDR10 content in real-time to performs dynamic tone mapping frame by frame or scene by scene. Also onboard is Theater Optimizer, a feature that optimizes tone mapping according to screen size and gain, along with other features of the installation environment.
