Audiophiles like to stay a step ahead of the unwashed masses. They've been touting the advantages of vinyl for years, but now that the general public is catching on, vinyl perhaps seems a bit déclassé. The alternative? Reel-to-reel tape! I've seen a growing number of tape decks at hi-fi shows over the last couple of years, but more than ever at T.H.E. Show. I got a couple of great demos of how good tape can sound in the TAD Laboratories and Von Schweikert Audio rooms, but many other rooms had tape decks on display, too.
