We asked if you have a wireless music system at home and a full one third of the respondents reported having—and loving— a Sonos system, followed by one quarter who have yet to venture into wireless audio. Soundbars may be one of the top selling categories in consumer electronics today, offering a simple and inexpensive path to (faux) surround sound, but many hardcore enthusiasts who read Sound & Vision wouldn’t dream of using one for their main AV setup, according to the findings of our soundbar poll. We asked “do you own a soundbar" and offered several yes/no choices, but the vote wasn’t as overwhelming against soundbars as you might think. Although half of the respondents “would never consider a soundbar,” four in ten acknowledged using one for different reasons. Here’s the breakdown…

With the new Dolby Atmos surround format on the immediate horizon we wondered how many Sound & Vision readers’ are using special surround processing to derive height channels in their current home theater setups. Turns out that nearly a quarter of respondents have setups with height channels—a respectable showing considering the effort involved in installing extra speakers.

TV—specifically 4K/Ultra HD and OLED—top the holiday shopping lists of Sound & Vision readers who responded to last week’s poll question: “What’s Your Top AV Gift Pick for 2014?” Ultra HD netted 22 percent of the votes, followed by OLED TV (15 percent), AV receiver (14 percent), and headphones (9 percent). Regular old HDTV was a distant second to OLED, gaining only 4 percent of the votes, proving once again that the S&V crowd is all about the latest and greatest technology. Here are the full results:

When it comes to buying AV gear for the household, 99 percent of the respondents to last week’s survey said they make all or most of the decisions. The results were evenly spit between those who “make most AV buying decisions…but consult my spouse/significant other” (42 percent) and those who “make all AV buying decisions…without consulting my spouse/significant other” (40 percent). Only 17 percent said they consult their significant other "before purchasing any new AV gear." Here are the complete results...

S&V readers are generally enthusiastic about 4K/Ultra HD, with 18 percent planning to buy an Ultra HD set, but still frustrated by the lack of programming and the piecemeal way in which the technology is being rolled out (we’re with you on that), according to the results of this week’s survey in which we asked for your take on 4K/Ultra HD.

Six in ten (58%) of those who participated in our recent poll asking “how often do you watch 4K content” said they cue up 4K movies and TV shows at least one to four times a week.
