Sharp Shows Entry-Level 65" UHDTV with Full-Array Backlighting

While its pixel-splitting Beyond 4K sets were the ones that grabbed the most attention at Sharp’s CES press conference, there are other 4K TV highlights to be seen in a visit to the company’s CES booth.

For example, Sharp’s entry-level UB30 Series UHDTVs are topped off by the 65-inch 65UB30 model. What’s notable about this set is that it has a local dimming full array LED backlight—a feature that almost always delivers better contrast and black uniformity than edge-lit backlights on TVs. Since the UB30 is an entry level series, it lacks Sharp’s latest version Smart Central 4.0 GUI and Android TV platform. But at $2,300 MSRP, the price is nice, especially for a 4K set with a full array backlight. Look for the 65UB30 to arrive in the first half of 2015.
