Rotel Unveils New Surround Preamp and Amplified Surround Processor

Rotel has announced the arrival of two new additions to its home theater product lineup: the RSP-1576MKII Surround Sound Processor and RAP-1580MKII Amplified Surround Processor. Both offer processing for up to 7.1.4 channels of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X audio and feature Dirac room correction technology. Each unit also supports integration with control systems via RS232 and IP Ethernet and provides three assignable independent 12V trigger outputs and wired IR input/output.

Rotel’s latest surround sound processor (pictured above) features 6 audiophile-grade Wolfson DACs and comes with Dirac Live Full (for 20Hz – 20kHz automatic frequency and time domain adjustments) room correction software. Connectivity options include 7 HDMI 2.0 inputs and 2 outputs, digital and analog inputs, a 7.1 multichannel input, and a USB type-B input that supports up to 24-bit/192kHz audio streamed from a computer. A moving magnet phono stage and wireless apt-X Bluetooth are also onboard.

RAP-1580MKII Amplified Surround Processor ($4,999)

The successor to the RAP-1580 that Sound & Vision reviewed in 2017, Rotel’s latest AM/FM tuner-less AVR features 7 class-A/B amp channels that deliver 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, and 200 watts into 4 ohms (2 channels driven). Like the standalone processor it has six 24-bit/192kHz-capable Wolfson DACs, and it features similar connectivity options. Dirac Live on the RAP-1580MKII is the LE (lite) version, with room correction limited to covering the 20Hz to 500Hz frequency range.

The RSP-1576MKII starts shipping this month, and the RAP-1580MKII arrives in October. Both units are available in either silver or black. For more info, visit the Home Theater section of Rotel’s website.
