JVC Launches True 4K Flagship Projector with HDR
The projector’s resolution is 4096 x 2160, which is the resolution used in professional 4K projectors (the de facto consumer standard is 3940 x 2160, which is exactly twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of 1080p Full HD).
The DLA-RS4500 is illuminated via a Laser Phosphor light source, said to be good to 20,000 hours to half brightness (which works out to about 11 years at 5 hours use per day). It’s claimed to exceed the DCI P3 color gamut, and approach 80% of BT.2020. A newly designed 100mm lens is installed, and THX 4K display certification is pending. The projector is rated at 3000 Lumens and is HDR capable (HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma). There’s no dynamic iris; the black level is optimized by dynamic dimming of the laser lighting.
