JVC Launches True 4K Flagship Projector with HDR

BLUEscent. That’s the moniker for JVC Kenwood’s newest LCOS projector, the DLA-RS4500. Larger than it looks in the photo above, and available with or without carrying handles (I’d recommend the handles!), it’s designed around three of JVC’s true 4K LCOS imaging chips.

The projector’s resolution is 4096 x 2160, which is the resolution used in professional 4K projectors (the de facto consumer standard is 3940 x 2160, which is exactly twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of 1080p Full HD).

The DLA-RS4500 is illuminated via a Laser Phosphor light source, said to be good to 20,000 hours to half brightness (which works out to about 11 years at 5 hours use per day). It’s claimed to exceed the DCI P3 color gamut, and approach 80% of BT.2020. A newly designed 100mm lens is installed, and THX 4K display certification is pending. The projector is rated at 3000 Lumens and is HDR capable (HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma). There’s no dynamic iris; the black level is optimized by dynamic dimming of the laser lighting.

Did they skimp the extra pixel on the width? 4096 x 2160
Correction also for the common 4k resolution to 3840 x 2160.

A minor correction is due here. The projector's model designation is the DLA-RS4500, but the term BLUEscent refers not to the projector itself, but rather to its new Laser Phosphor light source.
