LG Knocks $1,000 Off Award-Winning 55" OLED TV

LG today announced a $1,000 retail price cut for the 55-inch 55EC9300 OLED TV, Sound & Vision’s overall Top Pick of the Year for 2014.

The 1080p TV, which had been selling for $3,500, is now available for $2,500 at Best Buy, regional retailers, and e-tailers such as Amazon. The set features a curved screen and LG’s webOS smart TV platform.

When LG announced the EM9600 55-inch OLED flat panel at CES last January, its price and availability were not included in the press release, leading to unbridled speculation. Well, it seems that speculation can now be put to rest. According to an article from Korean outlet MK Business News, LG plans to stage a big launch event at the Cannes Film Festival in May, moving its timetable up from the second half of the year to take advantage of the demand that will surely accompany the 2012 Olympics this summer. And the price? Approximately 9 million Korean won, which is right around $8000.

LG OLED Sweeps 2017 TV Shootout

In what appears to be an ongoing trend, LG took top honors Thursday at this year's TV Shootout at CE Week in New York. This marks the 4th consecutive year that LG's current top OLED model, this time the 65-inch E7, was declared the annual "King of TV" — a title even more deserving than in year's past thanks to the set sweeping all three of the judging categories.

But despite what by now seems like a familiar or expected result, this year's event was more competitive and interesting than in recent years, with at least one set that very nearly equaled the LG, and others that failed to come as close as we'd have expected.
