When CES 2019 opens tomorrow, Pioneer will be spotlighting a new moderately-priced 7.2-channel AV receiver that supports Apple’s AirPlay 2 multiroom streaming platform — a first for the brand.

Hisense announced today at its CES press conference that it will expand its selection of 75-inch 4K LCD TVs and unveil 4K sets that are brighter than last year’s models and use more than 1,000 back-lit local-dimming zones to enhance contrast.

LG came to CES to launch the industry’s first roll-up OLED TV (at 65 inches), introduce its first two 8K TV sets, and expand its selection of TVs with screen sizes of 70 inches or more to 11 models in all.

Last year — oh, around the same time that I’m sitting down to write this — I penned an editorial lamenting changes to the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that made it inhospitable to writers covering the high-end audio and home theater categories. The gist of my article was that for us CES had become mostly irrelevant, and that I would sit the 2018 show out and quite possibly future ones as well.
