Bottom Line
The best thing that I can say about Panasonic's TC-P50VT25 is that it's capable of delivering a home 3D-viewing experience that's strikingly close to what you'd get in good theaters (minus the huge screen, of course). Beyond that, VT25-series TVs are the complete package: They provide a range of engaging media-streaming options, videophile-oriented setup features, and picture quality that, taken as a whole, ranks up there with the best flat-panel TVs. If you're in the market for a new set and are looking to go 3D, this Panasonic is easy to recommend.

Precalibration measurements were made with the P50VT25's THX picture preset selected. Grayscale tracking in that mode measured +/- 338 K of the 6,500-K standard from 20 to 100 IRE, which is below-average performance, although its color points perfectly mirrored the SMPTE HD spec. The set's color points were noticeably more saturated in Custom mode. However, the color-management and white-balance adjustments in that mode's Pro setup menu (which aren't available in THX) let me make significant improvements in both grayscale tracking and color-point accuracy.
