TCL Supports QD-Mini-LED with New Q Class TVs & Promise to Ship 115” Model “Soon”

TCL today introduced new Q Class quantum dot (QD) mini-LED 4K TVs and announced that the 115-inch QD mini-LED model it previewed at CES 2024 is “coming soon.”

Hailed as the world’s largest QD mini-LED screen, the forthcoming 115-inch 115QM891G is a showcase for the brand’s top TV technology, which is a direct result of TCL’s “massive investments in big screen LCD and mini-LED development and production” as well as its vertically integrated structure, which enables the company to control all aspects of QD mini-LED development at its Pangu Laboratory in China. The state-of-the-art lab is the “world’s first full process mini-LED development center and the only one of its kind in China,” according to TCL.

The 115QM891G boasts 20,000 local diming zones and an impressive peak brightness rating of 5,000 nits in addition to leveraging quantum-dot technology and TCL’s new QLED Ultra processing to reach 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut for more lifelike color. The big-screen behemoth also features an anti-glare screen, TCL’s newest and most powerful image enhancing processor, the artificial-intelligence-based AiPQ Ultra Processor, a new Onkyo 6.2.2-channel speaker system, Wi-Fi 6, and a NextGen TV tuner for receiving over-the-air ATSC 3.0 broadcasts as well as TV streamed over the internet.

All of this technology does not come cheap, as the 115QM891G will sell for $27,000 when TCL releases the TV for shipment. We pressed TCL for a more specific time frame but none was given.

TCL also introduced new models in its upscale Q Class series of QD mini-LED TVs, summarized below in lowest to highest price order.

Q Class models start with the Q651G, offered in seven screen sizes: 43 inches ($500), 50 inches ($550), 55 inches ($600), 65 inches ($750), 75 inches ($1,100), 85 inches ($1,600), and 98 inches ($4,000). The new Q65 is said to deliver improved color accuracy over previous generation TCL models in this price class and features and a new High Brightness+ LED backlight that’s 28% brighter than previous generation models. The 85- and 98-inch models feature a 120-Hz refresh rate and TCL’s Game Accelerator 240, which boosts the refresh rate to 240 Hz.

Moving up, the Q Class Q681G model is offered in four screen sizes: 55 inches ($700), 65 inches ($900), 75 inches ($1,200), and 85 inches ($2,000). The platform adds full-array local diming for enhanced contrast and features TCL’s High Brightness PRO LED backlight, which is said to produce up to 600 nits of peak brightness for improved specular highlights with high dynamic range (HDR) content.

The QM751G model, successor to last year’s Q7, brings QD mini-LED tech into the fold and is offered in five screen sizes: 55 inches ($1,100), 65 inches ($1,500), 75 inches ($2,000), 85 inches ($2,700), and 98 inches ($7,000). Hitting a price/performance sweet spot, QM7 models feature 1,500 local dimming zones and a peak brightness rating of 2,400 nits (20% over its predecessor) in addition to incorporating TCL’s AiPQ Pro image processor, HEXA 6-in-1 LED Chip for “high brightness with fine light control,” Ultra-Wide-Angle lens system for enhanced image uniformity, and ODR (optical distance reduced) LED technology to “virtually eliminate image blooming.” QM7 models have a high-adjustable pedestal stand and include TCL’s Game Accelerator 240 in addition to being rated to cover 97% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Topping the new Q Class models is the QM851G, offered in five screen sizes: 65 inches ($2,000), 75 inches ($2,700), 85 inches ($4,000), 98 inches ($8,000), and the 115-inch model ($27,000) highlighted at the beginning of this post. Each of the new flagship QM8 models boast all of the performance specs and features outlined for the 115-inch 115QM891G TV.

Last year’s S Class S2 720p and S3 1080p models carry over in 2024, while 2023’s S4 becomes the S5, featuring TCL’s AiPQ processing — a first for the S Class — increased brightness (up to 25% over the S4) and a wider color gamut. The 55-inch model has been upgraded to include TCL’s Game Accelerator 120 for 120-Hz gaming and features HDR Pro+, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ high-dynamic range processing. Screen sizes range from 43 inches up to 85 inches at prices starting at $350.
