Sennheiser Targets Portable Audio Enthusiasts With HDB 630 Wireless Headphones

Sennheiser has announced the HDB 630, closed-back wireless headphones designed to deliver what the company calls "audiophile sound wherever you are." Announced October 8, the HDB 630 shares its chassis with the MOMENTUM 4 but features a custom acoustic system built around a 42mm dynamic transducer manufactured at Sennheiser's Tullamore, Ireland facility.

The HDB 630 addresses a specific gap: high-resolution audio for listeners who want both wired and wireless flexibility. The headphones support 24-bit/96kHz resolution via USB Type-C or analog cable connections. For wireless use, Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX Adaptive codec provides what Sennheiser describes as robust streaming that prioritizes sound quality and signal stability. The package includes a USB Type-C transmitter dongle that upgrades compatible devices to aptX Adaptive capability—Sennheiser estimates this brings hi-res wireless capability to 80% of smartphone models versus 16% with native hardware support alone.

Two new features distinguish the HDB 630 from typical consumer wireless headphones. A crossfeed function, inspired by Sennheiser's flagship HE 1, blends left and right channels to create a more speaker-like presentation—useful for hard-panned mixes that can fatigue headphone listeners. More notably, a parametric equalizer goes beyond standard graphic EQ interfaces with user-adjustable bandwidth (Q) controls, multiple filter types, and A/B comparison capability. Settings are stored in the headphones' processing system and apply regardless of source or app. Users can share presets through the Smart Control Plus app, with QR code sharing planned for a future update.

"We set out to deliver a compelling option for audiophiles who want to keep the same level of quality they're used to with their wired headphones while enabling them to enjoy it everywhere," said Wee Hong Kuan, Senior Product Manager, "and out of the box, the HDB 630 brings a truly unique combination of fidelity and customization."

"The aim of this tuning was to let audiophiles on the move enjoy balanced sound with extended yet controlled bass," added Tobias Ritter, Acoustic Engineer for HDB 630, "Whether plugging in or checking in, you always get a front-row seat to the emotional content in a recording, down to the last detail."

Battery life is rated at 60 hours per charge. Quick-charge provides seven hours of playback from 10 minutes of charging. Adaptive noise cancellation, transparency mode, and integrated microphones for voice calls are included. The headband uses Japanese protein leatherette from IDEATEX. The package includes a travel case, USB Type-C charging cable, 3.5mm analog cable, airline adapter, and the USB Type-C Bluetooth transmitter dongle.

Pricing is set at $499.95 and the HDB 630 is available for preorder.
